Knowing God

Written on May 16, 2012

Psalm 34:8 - "Taste and see that the Lord is good."  The God of the Bible does not change.  So even though time has passed, we can experience Him similar to the way we read about Old and New Testament believers:  fellowship with Him, trusting the Word of God, walking by faith, etc.  In the Christian classic, Knowing God, J.I. Packer writes, "If our God is the same as the God of New Testament believers, how can we justify ourselves in resting content with an experience of communion with him, and a level of Christian conduct, that falls so far below theirs?  If God is the same, this is not an issue that any one of us can evade."

Reading

Written on February 1, 2012

Above all, we should be reading a healthy amount of Scripture.  Open up your Bible daily, and READ!!!  "As my health returned, I was able to use my eyes longer. I had been sustaining myself from my Scriptures a verse at a time; now like a starving man I gulped entire Gospels at a reading, seeing whole the magnificent drama of salvation." -The Hiding Place, Corrie ten Boom.  A few other books that I'd recommend, not to replace Scripture reading, but in addition to it:  Visioneering by Andy Stanley, a book that I married into 10 years ago, but recently worked through; The Pursuit of God by A.W. Tozer, opening it up is an invitation to go deeper with God; and The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom.

Recommended Reading

Written on February 23, 2011

Recommended reading:  How about a little Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John!  No, it's not the newest, hottest seller; but the Bible is the best selling book of all-time.  Instead of reading the opinions or fantasies of some literary artist, why not read the truth of God's Word.  At Cross Point we're all for a good read, and there are many books written with a Biblical perspective that are worth the reading.  But before rushing off to the bookstore to find a new one, why don't you dust off the Bible and fall in love with God's Word!

Secrets

Written on February 15, 2011

There is nothing secret about it, the Christian who desires to grow in their relationship with God must follow these two C-crets.  The first "C" is communication.  The Christian needs to communicate with God daily; this is done by listening to God through reading the Bible and speaking to God through prayer.  The second "C" is church.  The Christian needs to be a part of and plugged into a church or community of believers.  This is a call for the church (other believers) to be a real part of the Christian's life, not just something they attend once a week.  Nothing intellectually complicated about this, no difficult formula to figure out, simply ...
